Liquid Inclusion Collision and Agglomeration in Calcium-Treated Aluminum-Killed Steel

چکیده
This work addresses conflicting results in the literature regarding liquid inclusion agglomeration. To assess whether calcium aluminates do agglomerate steel, laboratory experiments were performed: melting electrolytic iron, deoxidizing melt with aluminum and subsequently treating deoxidation products (alumina magnesia-alumina spinel inclusions). Under conditions, solid spinels alumina inclusions successfully modified, producing a new population of much smaller aluminate inclusions. The forms because presence steel destabilizes MgO-alumina inclusions, which then dissolve into melt. exhibited weak but statistically significant tendency to agglomerate. Laboratory assessed light different collision mechanisms. Agglomeration mainly occurs by Stokes laminar fluid flow when no external stirring is imposed. Monte Carlo simulations collisions agree reasonably well experimental results. For industrial where agitated argon bubbling and/or electromagnetic stirring, turbulent dominate.

Inclusion Evolution during Modification of Alumina Inclusions by Calcium in Liquid Steel and Deformation during Hot Rolling Process
The production of clean steel involves the controlling, elimination, or modification of nonmetallic inclusions. In Al-killed steels, alumina is the main type of inclusion. Calcium treatment, by wire feeding, is commonly used to modify solid alumina inclusions to calcium aluminates, which exists in a fully or partially liquid phase. Liquid inclusions can improve steel castability, but make inclu...
متن کاملCalcium Isotopic Anomalies and the Lack of Aluminum-26 in an Unusual Allende Inclusion
We have studied the Mg and Ca isotopic compositions of an unusual Allende inclusion dominated by hibonite, which is the most refractory and possibly the most primitive major oxide mineral. No 26Mg excess was found in spite of the high 27 Al/24Mg (1 > 103) of some samples, indicating an initial (26Al/27Al)0 < 2 X 10-7, a factor of 250 less than found in some other Allende inclusions. The upper l...

Combined petrologic, oxygen and magnesium isotopic and trace element analyses of a compound calcium–aluminum-rich inclusion (CAI) from the Efremovka reduced CV3 carbonaceous chondrite reveal that it consists of a Mg-rich, O-rich xenolithic CAI, previously altered in the nebula, that impacted an extensively molten, O-depleted, type A host CAI shortly before the end of the host's crystallization....
متن کاملMathematical Analysis of Inclusion Removal from Liquid Steel by Gas Bubbling in a Casting Tundish
The mechanism of inclusion removal from liquid steel by gas bubbling and bubble attachment in the tundish is complex due to the great number of variables involved, and it is even more difficult to study because of the turbulent flow conditions. The main objective of this work is to analyze and improve the understanding of the alumina inclusion removal rate by bubble attachment and by gas bubbli...
متن کاملInclusion Complexation: Liquid Chromatography
Liquid chromatography (LC) may be simply described as an analytical technique used to separate the individual components of a solution based on their relative afRnities for a liquid mobile phase and a stationary phase. There are numerous modes of LC (i.e. reversed-phase, normal-phase, ion exchange) that are commonly classiRed according to the mechanism by which separation occurs. One such mecha...
